In today’s world of ever increasing technological change having the latest and greatest sometimes becomes irresistible. This statement definitely rings true in the case of the Apple engineer that died two years ago behind the wheel of a Tesla SUV on autopilot mode. Today the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) revealed that the engineer behind wheel was playing a video game on his cellphone while the crash occurred. It is becoming increasingly obvious that we are willing to sacrifice our own safety in exchange for pushing the envelope further. This is extremely dangerous since many are led to believe that computers are better at tasks than humans, where in reality these computers are designed and programmed by humans and capable of the same mistakes as them. This misconception will emerge as a wake up call to many as we our lives become more and more dependent on technology.
