Twitter + Elections = ❌

With the upcoming election this November all eyes are focused on election security, or at least they should be. Currently, all eyes are on social media companies since last election they played a huge role in a Russian misinformation campaign. Recently, a high school student was able to create a fake Twitter account and frame it as a politician running for the 2020 election. The craziest part about it? Twitter gave the account the same verified status celebrities and other big-name figures! They later permanently suspended the account. My biggest take away from this is, if a 17-year-old kid can circumvent Twitter’s anti-misinformation efforts a state actor undeniably could do the same.
