Geofence Warrants

It’s hard to quantify the true value of your privacy. Some value the sense of security more than others. Personally, I have started paying more attention to my online presence as of recent since it is becoming increasingly apparent the social media companies and corporations in general have no ethics when it comes to data collection practices. In this article I found, police used a geofence warrant to obtain data from Google about which cellphones were broadcasting in an area a geographical region at a certain time. Not only is the use of geofence warrants potentially unconstitutional, but the mere fact Google has this data is concerning. Google also likely sells this information to advertising and marketing firms for their in own purposes. While it’s not entirely convenient to cut Google and social media out of our life, some find the tradeoff worth it.
