Making my first commercial was an interesting experience, but in the end it ended up being a lot of fun. After installing Audacity, I began my search for copyright free music to use for my intro and my outro. This step wasn’t too difficult since there was a lot of copyright free music on Youtube. Next, I downloaded the music using a website to convert Youtube video links to MP3 files. Next I simply dragged the MP3 files in and cut the portion of the song I wanted. Using the effects menu, I selected ‘studio fade out’ which gave the fade out effect I wanted. After this, I recorded my audio for the commercial. One issue I had was increasing the audio levels on my microphone. After recording the audio portion of my commercial, I dragged the outro song into Audacity. At first, I ran into an issue where the song was playing over my recorded audio. To remedy this, I had to look up how to shift the start time of an audio track. I later found that hitting F5 within Audacity allows you to move the position of an audio track left or right. When I finally got the last song to play after my recorded voice, getting the audio to fade in was as simple as getting the previous audio track to fade out. I simply selected the desired effect from the effects menu at the top of my screen. Overall, the commercial was a lot of fun to make even though I ran into some hiccups due to unfamiliarity with the software. I have used Garageband before but I wanted to see how similar the process was using Audacity. By the looks of it, Audacity has a lot more features and a much steeper learning curve.
Wow, I wish I had looked up how to move audio tracks with F5! Audacity was also kind of difficult and felt outdated, but it worked out for a lot of people!

Hi Mathew I enjoyed your commercial. Your voice was clear and gave good insight. My biggest challenge was figuring out how to fade in and out

I am really suprised by the number of students who chose to use Audacity. I remember that most students in the class had Apple laptops and I find that GarageBand is way more user friendly, but I commend you for challenging yourself.
